Corrections Policy

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix it and say so. This page tells you how to report an error and what happens after you do.

Report an Error

Use our contact page. It helps enormously if you can include:

The page address (the URL)
What the page says now, and what you believe is correct
A source, if you have one

You do not need a source to report a problem. If something reads wrong to you, tell us anyway — that is often how we find the real issue.

How We Respond

We aim to acknowledge reports within five business days. When we confirm an error, we fix it promptly. When we cannot confirm it, we will tell you that rather than leave you waiting.

How We Handle a Correction

Factual errors. We correct the text and update the page’s last-modified date.
Errors that affect a reader’s decision. Where a mistake could have changed what someone bought or did — a wrong figure, a wrong specification, a wrong safety claim — we note the correction on the page itself rather than only fixing it silently.
Figures that have simply aged. Prices and specifications go out of date without anyone being wrong. We update these as routine maintenance.
Retractions. If a claim turns out to be unsupportable, we remove it and say that we did.

Safety-Critical Corrections

Reports involving safety — generator operation, carbon monoxide, electrical work, medication storage, fall risk — go to the front of the queue and are handled as quickly as we can manage.

What We Do Not Do

We do not remove accurate, properly sourced content because someone dislikes it, including advertisers and manufacturers. Requests to correct a genuine error are always welcome. Requests to remove something true are not the same thing.
