About This Site
Who we are, why we built this, and what we believe.
BuyItAt50.com is published by Franklyn Galusha through Franklyns Bay LLC, based in Crystal River, Florida — deep in Citrus County on the Nature Coast, where hurricane preparedness is not a theory. It is a way of life.
Franklyn has been a Florida resident since 1984 and has lived through 40+ hurricane seasons, multiple multi-day power outages, and enough close calls to have developed strong opinions about what actually works and what is marketing noise. He has 25+ years of experience in SEO and web publishing, which means he knows how to build resources people can actually find and use — not just content that looks good on paper.
He lives in Crystal River with his wife Tina and their dog Eli. Crystal River sits on the Gulf Coast in one of the most hurricane-vulnerable corridors in the United States. When Franklyn writes about preparing for extended power outages, he is writing about his own neighborhood.
Most emergency preparedness content is written for a generic adult. It assumes you can carry a 72-hour kit up a flight of stairs, install your own grab bars, and figure out your CPAP battery situation on the fly during a power outage at 2 AM.
This site is built for the reality of being 50, 60, or 70 years old in America. Fixed income. Reduced grip strength. Multiple medications. Medical equipment that requires power to keep you alive. Real stakes that a 35-year-old writing a generic preparedness article has never had to think about.
The thesis is simple: Prepare at 50. Independent at 75. Buy the right things now while you have income, mobility, and time. The window to prepare closes quietly — most people don't notice it's gone until the moment they need what they never bought.
Every page on this site is written with that window in mind. The generator guide, the grab bar installation walkthrough, the medication cold storage calculator — all of it is designed for someone who is approaching the age where decisions made today determine what their life looks like in ten years.
Franklyns Bay LLC also publishes two other free resources for coastal homeowners:
